A couple of things today, but nothing too startling. Firstly my wife, a keen knitter, has been hankering (get it? hank? Never mind.) after a yarn bowl, so at last I had a couple of nice pieces of ash to turn into a lidded bowl. As usual, I have finished it with a metallic enhancing wax to bring up the pattern of the grain and to give it a nice shimmer. It has a final coat of hard-wearing gloss wax to really make it shine.
I feel that I really should experiment with other finishes, but once again I have used waxes from Hampshire Sheen simply because I know that I will reliably get a good finish. Other finishes are available!
These are lovely things to make, but do present their own challenges, especially in cutting the slot and finishing the resultant edge. I am thinking of making some ordinary lidded bowls using this basic pattern but without the slot. I might also use a contrasting wood for the handle. Any thoughts?
Secondly, I just thought I would post this photo of a couple of pens ready to send out to a customer.
