It's been a busy week in the workshop, but with no turning. I bought a new bandsaw last weekend and have been building a stand for it. Ordinarily, one would find a corner for such a tool, park it there and leave it for eternity whilst every spider in the workshop sets up home behind it. However, my workshop is longer than it is wide and there is no empty wall space against which the saw can stand, and nor can I give it a permanent home anywhere in the space available. I decided therefore that the best thing to do would be to make it mobile.
Thus my saw has a new stand on four heavy duty rubber-tyred castors, two of which swivel and brake so that it is manouverable and safe. This means that I can place it anywhere that is convenient when I need it, whilst when it's not in use I can store it away in a corner. I've built a shelf into the stand and next week will add its own extension cable so that the saw can be plugged into any convenient electrical socket. Also, the spiders won't be moving in any time soon. My feeling about arachnids is that the only good spider is a flat spider, which I admit fills me with guilt, so I would much rather not be involved in squashing them.
Otherwise, I have been occupied with shelving out the potting shed and further securing our chicken run. We are in the midst of an avian flu outbreak at the moment and our hens are locked down to meet the government's biosecurity regulations. It's tiresome, but necessary. Whilst the current outbreak has decimated flocks across the country, we have been luck that there have been no reported outbreaks near us. We went through the same thing last year and were unable to release the girls into the garden until the beginning of May, and they were locked down again by October. The way things are looking at the moment, we are going to have the same situation this year.
I have been preparing some of my pens to go on sale in our local community hub in the town centre. I thought this might be a simple process, but I've had to be quite specific about describing the pens and how they will be displayed. I'm still not sure how much shelf space I will have, but hope to display some eighteen pens, as well as an information panel.
I'm hoping to get back to the lathe this week as there are a couple of little projects that I need to get completed. I will also be working on a set of crochet hooks, as I've been asked if I can produce a set for my Numonday shop. Hopefully that will be available later in the week and I will add it to me store as soon as possible. Keep and eye on my store at: https://www.numonday.com/shop/timberspinner/
